Comments by 2003-04 Moreno Interns / Rangel Fellows

"The Moreno/Rangel Legislative Internship program has been one of the best experiences of my life. I was not only able to work alongside so many talented individuals whose experiences added to my own, but also was able to formulate friendships that will accompany me throughout my life.  I was fortunate enough to have been placed in the office of the Vice-Chair of the committee on Public Education. I gained valuable experience from this internship that I will carry with me in my future goals ."

- Ester Leal, 2003-04 Moreno Intern

"The Moreno/Rangel Legislative Internship program ... made a positive impact on my life. I not only learned about the inner workings of the Texas Legislature, I got to work with a wonderful office. Representative Puente and his staff: Sandy Rodesney, Hope Wells, and Gladys Perez. They taught me about law, casework, and professional development."

- Angel Nails, 2003-04 Moreno Intern

"This program turned out to be much more than just another internship. It was a real opportunity for me to use my individual talents and abilities to positively affect the course of public policy, some of which will now impact millions of people on a daily basis. It gave me the experience and knowledge I needed to make decisions about where I want my career to take me."

- Angie Von Pageler, 2003-04 Moreno Intern

"The Moreno/Rangel experience was a lesson in leadership and allowed me to see the inner workings of the Texas Capitol. I witnessed history as it unfolded in a remarkable and unprecedented legislative session. Plus, I interacted with established leaders and found the chance to practice leadership skills on a daily basis. No textbook could ever teach what you learn working as a Moreno/Rangel student during a Texas Legislative Session.  My office placement was a fortunate one for me.  Working in the office of State Representative Pete P. Gallego not only allowed me to learn the legislative process, but I also learned invaluable personal leadership lessons along the way."

- Victor Villarreal, 2003-04 Rangel Fellow

"The most beautiful thing about this program is that I discovered that there existed 11 other people who too possess the passion to revolutionize, improve, or simply give back to their community.  The sacrifices made for us to initiate this program were not made in vain.  You will see us again...seeking new roads (like this program) in advancing the Latino and minority population. The lessons learned and the respect earned will forever be invaluable."
